THOUGHT BUBBLE CONSEQUENCES (VARIOUS)

Paper Jam were down at the Thought Bubble convention in Leeds on Saturday, selling comics and meeting like-minded folks.

I'd taken paper and pens down in the hope that we'd get some 24-minute comics done during the quiet stretches, but it just goes to prove how hectic and exciting the occaision was that this game of Consequences was the only creative thing we got done all day (save for the creative peddling of our wares).

Behold the collective creativity of Waugh, Bainbridge and Thompson!

TURTLE HAT (ANDREW WAUGH)

We haven't done any 24-minute comics for months now, but I couldn't really complain as I had this one sitting around unscanned and unloved.  It's from the "Turtle" and "Hat" session and marks a change for me in that it doesn't have any swearing or horrible things happening in it.  I think working on my Space Monkey submission has had an adverse affect on me.

Daniel's got a band, a blog and a strip in the new Paper Jam anthology. If it it came to a General Election, I'd vote for him ahead of Brown or the other one.

The words were Turtle and Hat.

WHITLEY BAY : WORD:PLAY (VARIOUS)

Myself and Oscillating Brow attended the Whitley Bay WordPlay festival on Saturday, which was characterised as a battle for hearts and minds. We won of course, but during the quiet periods, we faffed about with pens and paper. As is our way.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE (DISCUSSION)

I am a great believer that expensive tools do not a great artist make, but I'm always tempted to believe otherwise when I see someone talented using some pen I've never heard of to great effect.

Whether it's the way Andy Waugh deftly strokes his characters in to being with a brush pen, the furious hatching of Jack Fallows, or me - trying every pen in my arsenal until something sticks, it's exciting to see what tools other artists use to achieve their styles.

So my question to you, dear reader; what tools do you use and love?

TURTLE HAT (DAN GILMORE)

Another ace 24-minute from Dan Gilmore - young, good looking and talented.  Exactly what I hate in people, but he's escaped my wrath for now.

This one continues the "Turtle" and "Hat" combination of words - a juxtaposition which I felt marked a return to the simple, zen 24 minuters of old after several bouts of people putting stupidly long phrases in there which are impossible to draw.

TURTLE HAT (TERRY WILEY)

It has been my great pleasure to meet Terry Wiley through the Paper Jam meets - he's a great laugh and always full of good tips and advice.  He's also incredibly talented and prolific, which I usually choose to politely ignore, but it's becoming increasingly difficult when he keeps producing 24-minute comics of this calabre.  Git.

This one takes the words "Turtle" and "Hat" as inspiration.
